Two years ago, captivated by the fairy-tale beauty of İnebolu, I was transferred here—something I had never even considered.With its pristine natural beauty—where green and blue meet in the most stunning way—and its authentic architecture, it’s indescribably beautiful; yet, unfortunately, its resistance to development, along with a lack of social amenities and promotion, means it falls short in the tourism sector.While it has the potential to cater to all three types of tourism—maritime, forest, and historical—it falls short compared to many other towns that possess even just one of these features. We’re falling far behind. Steps must be taken not just at the individual level, but at the ministerial level as well; public events should be organized and encouraged. For example, while the commander and the people who disguised stove pipes as cannonballs—thereby changing the course of the war—should be known to everyone, even most of the people of İnebolu are unaware of them.I think a monument or statue should be erected to commemorate that heroism; I believe that event is just as important as Şerfe Bacı. It’s sad that no one from my hometown is participating in the Independence March, even though my own family is coming from my hometown, yet the indifference of the local people is disheartening. It’s sad that, despite having so much potential for development and such significant historical values—and despite having a population of forty to fifty thousand even a hundred years ago—the town has remained so run-down that it now has fewer than twenty thousand residents…

The main market street in the center of İnebolu should be closed to vehicle traffic. It may remain open outside of certain hours—for unloading goods, etc. The parking problem must be resolved. On days when the İnebolu Market is held, traffic officers should not issue parking tickets to vehicles parked properly along the riverbank. Sidewalks should not be blocked by shops encroaching on them. Villagers selling local products should gather in a designated area rather than on the sidewalks and maintain an orderly appearance.
